Transcriptional Memory: Staying in the Loop
Actively transcribed genes are organized into loops in which the 5' and 3' ends of the gene physically associate. Two new papers show that gene looping can persist after genes are repressed, promoting rapid reactivation of transcription, a phenomenon known as transcriptional memory.

The Cholinergic and GABAergic .bers of the medial septal/diagonal band of Broca (MS/DB) area project to the hippocampus and constitute the septo-hippocampal pathway, which has been proven to play a role in learning and memory. In addition, the hippocampus has bidirectional connections with the septum so that to self-regulate of cholinergic input. The activity of septal and hippocampal neuron...

The call from the nursing home relayed that an 85-yearold male was coming in by ambulance complaining of increased shortness of breath. The nursing home told us that he had an unknown code status. Once the patient arrived, it was clear that he was in the process of dying. While I was preparing for aggressive resuscitative efforts, my attending physician was shuffling through some paperwork that...

متن کاملTranscriptional Memory in the Drosophila Embryo
Transmission of active transcriptional states from mother to daughter cells has the potential to foster precision in the gene expression programs underlying development. Such transcriptional memory has been specifically proposed to promote rapid reactivation of complex gene expression profiles after successive mitoses in Drosophila development [1]. By monitoring transcription in living Drosophi...
